Dr. Holland does not always come across as the most sympathetic individual, but that makes this memoir no less interesting a read. She describes her 9 years working weekend shifts at a psychiatric ward, and provides plenty of insights into both the patients and the society and medical institutions that deal with them. This is certainly not my normal reading material but I found it fascinating to read about an area that I have really no exposure to.
