Good gruesome fun from Edward Lee with this tale of backwoods demented deformity and one of his favourite tropes, the woman from out of town who comes back to her home town for whatever reason and finds weird stuff going on. In this case she is also dissatisfied that all her lovers leave after one night, what can the reason be? (one that is rarely discussed in fiction, "Young Frankenstein" of all things alludes to it but that's unusual). This was also the one with the combat priest who believes he has a hotline to the deity. Much of Ed Lee is like Faulkner and DH Lawrence had a gross-out contest and this is no exception.
