God I loved this book! A quiet, contemplative read about the longing for solitude, the solace of nature in spite of its most blatant ugliness, the quiet euphoria in the simple and sublime. And finally, family, the glue that hold us together, the reason for it all. Pete Fromm is a child of nature, a poet, a teacher.
This reminded me a lot of [b:In the Shadow of Denali: Life and Death on Alaska's Mt. McKinley|112003|In the Shadow of Denali Life and Death on Alaska's Mt. I highly recommend this book if, like me you are a lover of nature and adventure, even if only (especially if only! grizzly bears, sheesh) from your arm chair. This is a beautiful tribute to all our children who break out hearts as we unavoidably break theirs.
Loved this book! I highly recommend it.
