The biggest problem with this book is that it puts the cart before the horse.
I don't mind that this is a lot of smut and only a little bit of plot. That's fine. I don't find it to be terrible smut, even. The problem is that there IS plot, but it is all thrown in at the very very end, AFTER all the smut. The character growth and the plot are AFTER hours and hour and hours (I audiobooked this; I can't imagine it's better in print in this respect) of smut.
It's really hard to care before the plot and the character growth. Nesta is a brat. It's like the book was written backwards in that regard and I just kept kind of banging my head against the wall wondering when something was going to happen.
There are some interesting themes of chosen family and sisterhood that come up, but honestly I don't blame anyone who wandered off before they do, or before the ending sequence that was basically all of the plot in one place.
I know myself, I will pick up the next book in the series. But I will pick it up in print to ensure it's easier to skip a chunk of the first part if need be. I'm still interested in the plot, in the world, but I will be so happy if Nesta goes back to being a side character and I don't have to concern myself with her any further.
