This is the first book by Robert Goddard I've read. It arrived in my BookBub email and he's evidently known as the "master of plot", so I needed to see for myself. The first half of the book is much better than the second half, and the twists are not particularly startling. But it's got a good pace (until the second half of Act II) and one of the two narrative POV characters is enjoyable.
I do wonder if the author has been to the locations he mentions in the book, because at one point he has a Japanese character thinking:
... it was probably just a featureless port city — Yokohama transplanted to the Netherlands.
Is it the 300-meter tall Landmark Tower that makes Yokohama featureless? Or perhaps it's the Cosmo Clock 21, which was the world's largest Ferris wheel when built in 1989? The numerous luxurious hotels in …
