Didactylos reviewed The secret generations by John Gardner

Oh dear me. I struggled to get to the end of this. The writer has enough material for around 5 books and blends them all into one which means there's no narrative focus and no real detail. Its a romp through the events of the period where surprise surprise the various family members are involved in every aspect. Add in the need to explain basic stuff to the reader like who Franz Ferdinand was and the tired old and stupid cliche of the character who plays wargames with model soldiers to study tactics and strategy.
