Breakfast at Tiffany's is a novella by Truman Capote published in 1958. In it, a contemporary writer recalls his early days in New York City, when he makes the acquaintance of his remarkable neighbor, Holly Golightly, who is one of Capote's best-known creations.

I would give it six stars, if possible. The experience of listening to Capote's words narrated by Hall was something that caught me unguarded. An overwhelming experience. Because I only listen to audiobooks when I'm on the streets, I even started inventing reasons to go out, a few times under below freezing point temperatures.

Breakfast at Tiffany’s on its own would get 3 stars from me. I definitely think it’s overhyped, even though the characters are fairly interesting. It just doesn’t have the depth needed to make it a great novel/novella but is too long for a good short story.

And short stories is where it’s at with Truman Capote for me. My version of the book contains the stories “House of Flowers” (4 stars), “A Diamond Guitar” (4 stars) and “A Christmas Memory” (5 stars) which bump up the overall rating but make Breakfast at Tiffany’s pale in comparison. At a fraction of the length they offer moving and thought provoking stories with characters of surprising depth.
