A cross-section againt the grain of the southern freedom movement.
5 stars
At the end of the day, it is human nature that, should a collective be confronted with violent and racist terrorism, both overt and ingrained within the society as a whole, that some of them will decide to take measures to defend themselves. This book provides an excellent cross-section of the Civil Rights Movement from the late 1940s up to the mid 60s, and examines how non-violence and armed self defense both played their own complementary roles in securing and defending black people's basic rights as citizens. I heavily recommend this work.
Also, there's no way Mississippi's that backwards of a place, right? RIGHT?!?
