Galore is a serious, complicated, and historically-researched book, which made it a nice piece of fiction to start with after years of exclusively reading nonfiction. I love a story that spans generations and pulls back the veil on colonial ancestors who seem so static on paper. Expect the stink of fish, paganism, forbidden love, and labour organizing.
