otrops reviewed The Great Food Gamble by John Humphrys
Review of 'The Great Food Gamble' on 'Storygraph'
3 stars
A few years old now. It is a decent enough review of intensive agriculture and its alternatives in the UK. By and large, Humphrys is fare and balanced, but he occasionally veers towards the hysterical.
He spends quite a bit of time talking about the ability of non-scientists to make a contribution to science. I wish he had seen himself as more of a scientist than a journalist and actually cited some of the studies and statistics he gives more carefully. Trying to pick out his sources from his rather chaotically arranged bibliography was pretty frustrating.
