"Losing Moses on the Freeway: the 10 Commandments in America" by Chris Hedges is half a journalistic work, half a fiery sermon jeremiad about the state of America that will make you reflect on the role of morality and sin in the contemporary United States. Originally a series of pieces in the New York Times, the book uses the Ten Commandments as a way to talk about the disintegration of community life and culture in the United States. Hedges was a former war correspondent in Latin America and wrote one of the best books on the meaning of war - "War is the Force that Gives Us Meaning." Generally, I like his observations and some of the pieces are creative.
