meeg reviewed Noodlephant by Jacob Kramer
Review of 'Noodlephant' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
A picture book that introduces themes of:
- Zoos as prisons? Check.
- Community solidarity? Check.
- MUTUAL AID? Check.
- Hunger strikes? Check.
- Police as tools of the state to enforce unjust laws, police as groups that do active harm to marginalized people, police as inherently racist and violent? Check, check, and C H E C K.
- And the pure joy of the perfect community meal, pasta, shared among friends? Check.
This is the most radical picture book I've ever had the pleasure to read, and I feel as though my faith in humanity has been restored tenfold. PLUS proceeds of the book go to Black & Pink, an organization dedicated to helping LGBTQ+ people who are incarcerated, and that's just so incredible. I'm buying a copy for myself ASAP.
"Instead of making laws, they made food for each other."
