Angrboda reviewed The Nothing Girl by Jodi Taylor

I was uncertain about this at first. On the one hand, it's Jodi Taylor. On the other hand, it's not St. Mary's. On the other other hand, it's Jodi Taylor, and we know what she's like with killing favourite characters left, right and center and imposing as many wicked cliff-hangers as possible.
This was quite different from St. Mary's. It's a totally different sort of story, of course, but also while there was some of the same sort of humour, there was less of it. Which is good, because putting as much silly into it as in St. Mary's would have been rather inappropriate for the story, I think. It works for St. Mary's but wouldn't have worked here.

I liked Jenny almost from the beginning. Russell was rather a different matter. Almost until the very end of the book I vacillated between quite liking him and finding him a complete and utter bastard. Mostly, though, I think that was probably a good thing. It was painful for Jenny whenever he went off the rails a bit, but it also was a great part of showing her that other people have problems, insecurities, anxieties, worries, weaknesses, fears and so on as well. Even Thomas.
And JT got through the whole thing without even massively trolling me. So that's good.
