- on the way to be a more toxic -social network - or on the way to just be something to train the Microsoft AI on? Or worst of both worlds?
The Canadian Globe and Mail's tech "Lately" has an episode about how "LinkedIn is weird now" and it shows what @pluralistic Cory Doctorow is showing again and again: Enshittification is happening!

From @pluralistic :

'Using RSS is a chance to visit a utopian future in which the platforms have no power, and all power is vested in publishers, who get to decide what to publish, and in readers, who have total control over what they read and how, without leaking any personal information through the simple act of reading. And here's the best part: every time you use RSS, you bring that world closer into being! '

Yanis Varoufakis: Technofeudalism (2023, Random House Children's Books) 4 stars

In his boldest and most far-reaching book yet, world-famous economist Yanis Varoufakis argues that capitalism …

Late-stage capitalism has given way to cloud-based fiefs

Late-stage capitalism has given way to cloud-based fiefs, and we are the serfs. I need convincing on some of the detail (e.g. how effective are they at manipulating our desires?), but mostly agree with his main argument. Pairs well with Cory Doctorow's #enshittification ideas (@pluralistic@mamot.fr).

"...the conduit through which I experience Molly's excellent work is totally enshittification-proof, and the more I use it, the easier it is for everyone to be less enshittified.
This conduit is anti-lock-in, it works for nearly the whole internet. It is surveillance-resistant, far more accessible than the web or any mobile app interface. It is my secret super-power.
It's RSS."

I just want my computer to wait for me to ask it to do something, then do that thing, and not a different thing.

Unfortunately we forgot to make this obvious rule into a law, so now most apps are a disorienting and frustrating mixture of untimely alerts and popups and calls-to-action and logins and ads and upsells and redirects and oops, what the hell was i trying to do 90 seconds ago? I can’t recall **and neither can it**.
