One of my favorite hike finds ever! Just some random log on the trail that someone converted into the cutest little squirrel apartment, just absolutely delightful and whimsical. Makes me want to bust out my old Redwall novels!

Title: Redwall
Author: Brian Jacques
Publisher: Vintage Classics, 1986. This reprint from 2014.
Premise: An abbey populated and run by mice, etc. comes under attack, and defends itself, from a horde of marauding rats. Mattias the mouse must find a lost sword with which to vanquish the threat.
A quote: “The fieldmouse untied her headband. It was her favorite one, pale yellow bordered with the cornflowers after which she was named. She tied it to Matthias’s arm, the right one, just above the elbow. A maiden’s colors for her champion warrior.”
Thoughts: A curious book. The plot is very straightforward, with few if any significant twists and turns. The moral character of the various different animals is familiar from Reynard the Fox and The Wind in the Willows. Yet, despite its shallowness – or perhaps because of how familiar and cozy such stories are – Redwall …

Yet, despite its shallowness – or perhaps because of how familiar and cozy such stories are – Redwall obviously appeals to fantasy fans of various ages, as attested to by its reprinting history. Personally, I am enjoying ticking all the fantasy/ fairytale/ fable boxes as they are presented, but am eager for the read to end.
A highlight: the race of warlike sparrows.
Scott's review of Mattimeo - BookWyrm
Another fun book. Made more fun by a good audio-cast. Jacques does a great job of bringing the world alive. And it's a world with likeable people. It even is bringing the mid-evil world more understandable too.
I do wish that some of the species werent so evil. Like a good guy rat or weasel. There is a good guy owl here, which the last owl was ....

Listening on Everand. And It's Another Full Cast Performance!
Very ready for more #Redwall stories. Always fun yet serious. And this time, it's a generation after the first. So some of my fav chars are back (Yay, Constance the badger). Tho I am going to have to catch up on things. It's been a while since this era of Mossflower. #Fantasy #books @bookstodon@a.gup.pe

🚨*Rebel #Tories 'fight like cats in a bag' demanding thousands be barred from University!*🚨
The report by Jonathan Gullis claims: "Young people already receive 14 years free education & anything above that is a luxury not a right." 😳
The group of 30 #RedWall #Tory MP's want to slash student numbers by 15%, & called on the Government to invest in #Apprenticeships to replace 'Mickey Mouse' courses paid for by the taxpayer.
Thoughts? 🤔

Darllenais yr erthygl wych yma ar Helen Ward, mor cŵl bod yna furlun ohoni yn Stadiwm Watford, a bod nhw'n dathlu ei lwyddiant rhyngwladol hefyd. Dyna chi arwr!
Saw that Watford have a lush mural of Helen Ward in their stadium, amazingly cool! Brill that they celebrate her international success too. What a legend! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/65627463
