Tonight’s #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #InterCityNotte #770 from #Trieste is hauled, top’n’tail, by Class E.402B electrics. It includes ex-Z1 1st and 2nd class cars, and an ex “Gran Confort” one, all rebuilt to 2+2 open plan seating. Plus a T3 (ex-T2s) sleeper and two T4 couchettes (ex UIC-X 1st class compartment seaters).

Views this afternoon from #Savudrija #Salvore, the northwestern tip of #Istria 🇭🇷: ships to, and from, #Koper 🇸🇮 and #Trieste 🇮🇹 are passing in front of the #Dolomites mountain range, which is about 100 kms away. Only the autumn months provide these views.
Whenever travelling to #Vienna 🇦🇹 by train from the south and in the evening, I try to catch #EuroCity #Emona from #Ljubljana 🇸🇮 and #Trieste 🇮🇹. It’s got a #Slovenian #DiningCar, one of a kind - in the eyes of the railfan. (And there’s just one of these.) My snack tonight is composed of a #Kranj sausage and a beer from #Ljubljana.

Impressions from last night’s #Trenitalia 🇮🇹 #InterCity Notte ride to #Trieste in a “superior” sleeper cabin:
- an (almost hidden) closet behind the individual seat which folds away
- two more beds right below the roof (claustrophobics abstain). These places are not purchasable I think.
- as in all sleeper classes: breakfast and a morning newspaper.
With #FS 🇮🇹 #Trenitallia #InterCity Notte #ICN to #Trieste. The train originates in #Roma Termini and is currently one of the few Italian night trains that include a #T3 #T3S sleeper. These cars, rebuilt from the T2s type, feature a number of cabins with en-suite facilities.
Taking an #FS 🇮🇹 #Trenitalia #InterCity from #Trieste. Nice views of the #Adriatic just after departure. The train is in push-pull mode, with a Class E.401 (a rebuilt E.402A) on one end and a cab car (driving trailer) on the other. No @diningcar though, just vending machines for snacks and drinks.
Hello from the lovely #Opicina 🇮🇹 #tram. The line climbs from the port city of #Trieste up to the Karst plateau. On the steepest section, a rope-operated pod pushes the tramcar up (and slows it down on its way back) making it a sort of #funicular. The trams were built 90 years ago, in 1935.
#Trieste 🇮🇹 Centrale earlier today: this is the #FS #Trenitalia #Frecciarossa to #Milan, via Venezia #Mestre and #Verona. A Class 700 #ETR unit is working this service. This train type was originally built as #AnsaldoBreda #V250 for the #Amsterdam 🇳🇱 to #Brussels 🇧🇪 #Fyra highspeed programme.
