I’m really picky about collections, and for me, there wasn’t a single story in this one that missed the mark. Maaaaaybe one of them, but barely. This is just straight-up good writing, and several of these will stick with me forever.

This short novel made me feel the same way I felt when I first read Edogawa Ranpo, and that made me happy.

I had expected this one to be a bit more literary, but it was a boilerplate attempt to come to terms with the political hates of today. Sadly, it was uneven, heavy-handed, and disjointed, with very little story. Some of the body horror nastiness is fun, but it was so torn between real horror and satire that I just felt like it wasn’t worth the time.

but still interesting. I really loved Cursed Bunny. I thought that Chung’s style really suited the bizarro-horror and comedy, and those stories were all right up my alley. So I was hoping for more of the same with Your Utopia.

This book is not horror as much as it is science fiction - which is a genre I’m sorry to say just doesn’t speak to me very often. So while these stories still contain the odd humor and interesting ideas, for me they lack the visceral splatter that Cursed Bunny contained.

That said, it’s still really decent. If you’re a sci-fi person, I’d suggest it to you. I just had to rank it lower than CB.
