The prose overflows with delectable Irish phrasing and the stark setting gives way to dialogue that is full of gorgeous pathos. Unfortunately, I couldn't get into it. I found the characters too unlikable to care what they had to think and from there boredom set in.

A shame because I think this is the kind of novel that could flourish in a book club setting. I read it alone.
