Review of 'Els Testaments' on 'Goodreads'
5 stars
An amazing followup to the original, which I read 30 years ago and seemed so impossible at the time.
It's impossible to give a thorough review of The Testaments without giving away important plot revelations. In the promotional material, only two of the three viewpoint characters are revealed - Aunt Lydia (yes, THAT Aunt Lydia), and a privileged daughter of a Commander. The third character is a great one, and the various revelations that tie into both the original novel and even into the Hulu TV series are well-done.
Written in first-person from three unreliable narrators, all wrapped in that same future academic symposium, The Testaments is a wonderful novel, powerful and hopeful, and a little brutal at times, as befits the setting. Highly recommended.
