Jade War
4 stars
The second book of the Jade City trilogy continues the tale of the Kaul family in the fictional city of Janloon in Kekon.
I enjoyed the second book even more than the first. As we now start focussing even more on the difficult decisions and challenges all the main characters face and the growth they see through them. As the book is told through multiple different perspectives, we don't get to see in depth growth in a single character, but we are shown just enough of each character that we see noticeable changes in them.
Despite the title, we do not actually see much physical clan war in this second book. But instead, the focus is more on politicking and outmaneuvering the other clan economically and politically, which I enjoyed. Especially as the focus is now also aimed outside Janloon and Kekon to other nations and continents and how conflicts between other nations affect the politics within the country.
