This one's definitely not for everyone, but I'm surprised by how much I like it. None of the characters are particularly likable (except the comic relief), but they seem authentic. Fair warning, the book is full of violence and sex—if these are elements that bother you, maybe skip this one. In this case, for me, it helped make a very compelling story. Not a happy one, mind, but it was hypnotic. I was invested in the characters and had to see what happened next. The artwork was great for the story, a mix of glitz and noir, and the storyline itself an interesting twist on the idea of a former mobster going back for one more job. The mix of dance and mob life was an interesting one, and one I haven't seen before. Finally, the story wrapped up neatly, which I appreciate in a graphic novel; even if there's another installment, this volume can be read as a standalone. If you're looking for something a little different and don't mind dark themes, it might be worth a read.
