This is a hard book and can feel very dark and cynical at times. It is also a book that I know I don't grasp completely because I know so little about Indian history and politics. But it is a piece of art that is universal in it's specificity. Anyone who has been paying attention to the horrific things humans do to one another and who has been disillusioned with politics, ngos, media, and all the other "leaders" will identify with this story. Cynical as can be, but still searching for a way forward.
