Danticat is a beautiful writer. And she manages to weave an impressive amount of Haitian history and culture into this memoir/meditation on what the role of an artist is. She says people need to create dangerously and confront their fears with their art. James Baldwin might have called it bearing witness. They were both right. And we need more artists. In fact, we all need to be artists.
