Overall, a fresh take on fantasy fiction - it’s not just another medieval Europe with magic and elves. It’s a mix of medieval technology with magic and Southern and Southeastern Asian cultures and peoples.

I was a bit dissatisfied with the resolution of the conspiracy being an, “Aha! We got you with our own counterconspiracy years ago!” It seemed to come out of nowhere. Having said that, the characters were great, the plots and subplots intriguing, and the fresh take on demons was superb.
