Ben_Byrd reviewed Small Favor by Jim Butcher (The Dresden Files, #10)

This is probably going to be the last of the Dresden Files for me. Butcher's only scratching the surface with his characters and won't expand past the same formula he's been using since Storm Front. I've also noticed that the last few of his books are all 420 pages. He's forcing action scenes that don't belong; it seems like he's doing this in order to meet some odd length requirement and the action he forces in distracts from the story and serves no real purpose. Also, by reusing the same characters over and over again, it gets too difficult to remember every aspect of each character from each previous book, especially when he has an army of characters in each book. He needs to embark on a new formula and create some new characters. Failing that, he should keep the number of characters in each book to a healthy minimum. I still like the basic idea behind the Dresden Files and would be willing to come back if Butcher would just stop rewriting the first book.
