Alice Feeny: Sometimes I lie (2018)

Amber wakes up in a hospital. She can't move. She can't speak. She can't open …

Good unreliable narrator book

Good execution of unreliable narrator. This book threw me for a loop several times. Overall it wasn't as enjoyable as some other thrillers because I didn't particularly like the characters, but it was very exciting nonetheless.

Alice Feeny: Rock Paper Scissors (Hardcover, 2021, Flatiron Books)

Good, creepy, a little predictable

M. C. Beaton: Agatha Raisin and the love from hell (2001, St. Martin's Minotaur)

I found there were a lot typos with words misspelled. It made it hard to …

Comfort reading, nothing special

Watch Agatha muddle through her life and be a busybody while you laugh at her and the characters and eat popcorn on the sidelines. It's not gonna win any literary awards or anything but it's the perfect read if you want the book equivalent of a soap opera. This is definitely not the best in the series.

Benjamin Stevenson: Everyone on This Train Is a Suspect (Paperback, 2024, Penguin Books, Limited)

A little gimmicky and predictable but overall a fun read

I enjoyed this book. It's not anything groundbreaking but it's a fun read and I did enjoy the "I'm a mystery writer who's in a mystery" gimmick as it was well-executed.

Nekesa Afia: Dead Dead Girls (Paperback, 2021, Berkley)

Harlem, 1926. Young Black women like Louise Lloyd are ending up dead.

Noir mystery set in Harlem

Really enjoyed this book. It wasn't the best mystery I've ever read but it's a good start from a new author and I actually really loved the characters. They're a little caricaturish but it works with the noir theme. I'll read the next books in the series when my library gets them in!

C. L. Miller: Antique Hunter's Guide to Murder (2024, Pan Macmillan)

Not very well written

Feels like an antiques expert who is very good at antiques but not very good at writing wrote a mystery. It's...ok. I made it to the end but I'm not 100% sure I enjoyed it. It was extremely hard to relate to the protagonist, who I felt wasn't very well written.
