The Wizard's Apprentice

Toole wrote Neon Bible several years before his one great work Confederacy of Dunces. The circumstances around CoD's publication and few details of Toole's life made me read this. There's no editing or revision here, it like a first draft. There's shades of Flannery O'Connor and Harper Lee. The first person narrator meeting a parade of characters and abrupt ended prefigures CoD. It wonderful to see the beginnings here and also see how Toole grew between this and CoD.
