Shirley Jackson: Dark Tales (2016, PENGUIN GROUP) 4 stars

Review of 'Dark Tales' on 'Storygraph'

4 stars

Everyone knows the Lottery, that's not in this collection. The first story, the Posbility of Evil is one of the best, its about an old bee who causes trouble by writing anonymous letters. Karma comes back to her and it feels like a Flannery O'Connor story - Greenleaf. Louisa, Come Home and Summer People are good too. At times the tales get a little too much like King and Poe - Home, Paranoia, it is mostly lacking the O'Connor element of Christianity and Southern fried characters.
