I made the mistake reading this book shortly after reading The Grapes of Wrath. I really wanted to like this book (I loved Hannah's The Nightengale), but I found the writing AWFUL, the story rushed, the characters really hard to connect with/relate to and the book just all around mediocre. It felt forced and I found myself rolling my eyes a lot. I struggled to finish.
