Brandon Sanderson: Mitosis: A Reckoners Story (The Reckoners) (2013, Delacorte Press) 4 stars

Review of 'Mitosis: A Reckoners Story (The Reckoners)' on 'Goodreads'

3 stars

Another short Sanderson read.
The good:
It's free on Audible. And it bridges a gap (both in waiting time for me and story-wise) from Steelheart to Firefight.

The bad:
Well... the antagonist, for instance. I like the idea of the person/Epic "Mitosis". But even in a novelette, the character should have been more fleshed out. This was sketchy. The vague outline of a character. No motivation, no background, no fééling.
I had the distinct impression I was reading a zombie story. Not only because of the manifestion of Mitosis's talent, but because of the person Mitosis himself. Bloodless, brainless, rotting, stumbling, moaning.

I give it three stars out of five because, even with the lack of depth, the story is captivating. The story supplies necessary information for moving from Steelheart to Firefight. Information, story continuation I didn't expect. For in stance, I didn't expect the Reckoners to stay in Newcago and take over the government after defeating Steelheart.
