Review of 'Watchmen' on 'Goodreads'

4 stars

It's not very often I'll read a comic, graphic novels are my preference because so much more is happening on the page, a comic feels a bit restricted with the artwork being in the panels only. The Watchmen has to be one of the best ideas for a comic, especially as it was inspired by a Bob Dylan song.

The "Superheroes" aren't particularly good, overweight, old, violent, the costumes look silly and the women aren't wearing sexy PVC outfits, that's one of the best things about this comic, removing itself from Hollywood superheroes makes it feel more real, if the general public were to fight crime in their spare time then this is probably what they would look like.

There is a complex plot, with twist after twist and some brutal violence. Some clever writing too, whilst some scenes are playing out a character is reading another comic and both a slightly linked. The one thing that stops this getting 5 stars is the ending, it seemed a bit blah.

Still this is a great read, gonna have to go watch the movie again now.
