An incredible story, a friendship between a boy and his fox set during the outbreak of war. The plot was good, the characters great (especially the wonderful Vola, you can't help but love her), the setting works well too (easy to use the setting to give the reader a big moral ending) and there are some lovely illustrations, they almost look like they were drawn using charcoal. I also loved how the boy and the fox get alternating chapters.
There is something missing though, I can't figure out what it is, at times my daughter and myself found ourselves getting bored, those scenes you always get in books where the pace slows down and you do a flash back were so dull, I could see my daughter's mind starting to wander and she started to get fidgety.
It's a shame really as we both enjoyed most of the book, the ending was cracking too.
It's a nice book and you should give it a read.
