I decided to give this a shot on the off chance that its post-apocalyptic far-future setting meant that the "magic" in this fantasy story would be science, but once it became evident that (spoiler alert) it was supposed to be real magic, I could no longer forgive the terrible writing and the identical plot to LOTR.
