I am increasingly finding modern nonfiction books that would have been better as novellas, or long magazine articles. Maybe this new thing called "singles" will ultimately fill that need. I have no doubt the author has reams more information on the Dept of Sanitation, and I applaud her ethnographic zeal, but the book is too long by half.
