A fun, punchy SF look at mermaids, garnished with some complex humanity and a bit of horror and romance - I loved this book, but there were definitely some aspects that felt oddly unnecessary and pushed it in the direction of action/adventure. Also: only good if you appreciate a good George R. R. Martin style character life-expectancy - it does keep you on your toes, but not everybody makes it.
