I really really enjoyed this book. The telling is similar to his first book, "House of Windows", but it's far more gripping. It's a story and it's told brilliantly, like a story should be. You can imagine sitting in a booth in a dark bar and listening to an old man spin his tale. I'm a sucker for all things Lovecraftian and this is full of it. Spooky, dark and very enjoyable.

Red: 3
The Passenger: 3.5

Two books, Red being the main, and The Passenger being the novella at the end. Red was okay. It felt a little phoned in. A made for TV book if you will. Not what people read Ketchum for. The Passenger is what people read Ketchum for. Short, violent and intriguing. Still suggest it as a quick read.

I saw mixed reviews and didn't expect to enjoy this. I did. Very much. It reads like a modern take on a 60s ghost movie. I can see a screenplay. It's long-winded and detail heavy, but reads quickly. The story isn't the most original, but there's enough new to make you keep turning pages. I could of done with more chapter breaks, but I'm particular. Very enjoyable.

I enjoyed this book more than I thought I would. It's impossible to not note the similarities with "Lord of the Flies". The kids are fewer and far kinder, but the beast is pretty gnarly and quite revolting. A quick, fun read that left me...itchy. I won't be recommending it to any teenage Scouts though. They might leave the group.

I've heard so many rave reviews about this over the years, I was prepared to dislike it. The reality is, it's one of my favorite King novels so far. It's the perfect use of his very descriptive style. It's a quick and enthralling read. A wonderful setup for what I imagine will be a sprawling take. I really enjoyed it and look forward to the next in the series.

I finished this about a month ago on the plane home from vacay. Didn't read at all there. Only on the flights to and from. Wow! What a great book. Darker than the first three which is saying a lot. It’s left me a little down. Also, no surprise. I thoroughly enjoyed every second. Not one slow moment. POSSIBLE SPOILER I went into this without any research. I wanted to be surprised. And I was. I did not see another book coming. I’m SO excited. This is one of my favorite series and I can’t wait to see it expand.

Unpopular opinion: this book is not good. I trudged through and kept hoping it would get better. After many false starts, it was over. I'll attempt to read her other works. I've heard too many good things. But, I'm nervous. 😨

4 1/4* I read some of the negative reviews, just to see. Jeez people, STFU! Sometimes a story is a story. Reading too much into something takes away from it. Unfortunately, we're living in a world where most people are trying to leech all the joy out of everything with ridiculousness.

This book is fun. I understand why some people call it a tad juvenile. It does away that way. It's not particularly "hard" fantasy. And that's okay. It's a great story that can keep the reader engaged and away from the real world for quite awhile. I'm not going to probe the details or nitpick it. I loved it. I look forward to the next. For the life of me though, I don't see why he would have pigeon-holed himself into a trilogy. I could see his going at least four or five books before it gets old. Maybe …

I think my experience with this book suffered a little from high hopes. Everything I heard made me think this was going to be epic, and it was! It just wasn't the most epic. It is a fantastic story that kept me reading until I'd be tired the next day. It's we'll written and enthralling. It was just missing a little something. Something I think I might find as the story progresses. I'm starting the sequel tonight to keep up the story line. I only occasionally do that. I'm even putting off Iron Gold for it. Gasp!!

***1/2 Holidays slowed me down, but I finally finished it. I'm a sucker for these books. I keep thinking they can't stay entertaining, and I keep being wrong! This book is no different. Lots of excitement and a couple of twists. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'll be starting the next one after I finish my next read.

Ugggg. Okay, I really enjoyed this book. It is surprisingly well written and a lot of fun to read.

Like many others, the ending really...left me wanting. Too many unanswered questions. I know, I know. It's supposed to be like that. Doesn't mean I have to like it.

Also:. What. Happened. To. Gary?!

This took me forever to read. For a number of reasons. We moved and had busy social lives. Mostly though, I just never got into it. King is very hit or miss for me. This was mostly miss. Maybe it's because my generation knows the story already, or because we crave more action. I don't know. I'm glad I read it. It's one of those books people discuss. It just won't make the big list I keep in my head.
