Nice, short, typical Sherlock Holmes tale. A good listening version available on LibreVox.

This is a splendid and reasonably complex mystery. There are quite a few flashbacks, which kept me on my 'feet'. The tale is peopled by flawed, imperfect people who care deeply for competing causes and allegiances. If you are new to Armand Gamache, this should NOT be your first encounter.

This is another entertaining Covid 'time period' novel. It is about an interesting parallel universe; a tale designed to help both the author and reader find a semblance of normalcy after years of pandemic. By the way, this is a good story as well.

Wonderful read

I truly enjoyed this novel. I was initially a bit taken aback by the Covid references and inclusion, but ended finding the rationale for its involvement reasonable, cogent, and appropriate. The characters in this tale are people I'd like to meet. I admire the world view expressed by the author as well as the overall story, plot and mystery.

An interesting tale and plot

This is an enjoyable read. Good characters, curiously interesting series premise. I'm skeptical about the 'accuracy' of the series historical context, but perhaps that's part of the 'fun'. As an aside I appreciate that the LGBTQ component(s) of the tale actually treats those characters as flawed as everyone else.

I'm having what seems to be a run of bad to mediocre books. This one hits the mediocre level. The depth of thought, complexity characters, scope of scene and plot line are truly just 'meh'. I know this is a YA book, but when I think of books by CS Lewis, Tolkien and others the bar is pretty high for 4 and 5 stars. This one is 'just' okay.
ManyRoads reviewed Way of the Bear by Anne Hillerman
Another wonderful Manuelito/ Chee Tale
4 stars
This novel, like all of Anne Hillerman's, is thoroughly researched, well written, empathetic and people by interesting characters, and a magnificent setting. There are few downsides to be found reading either Anne or her father Tony's mysteries.

Wierd but good...

This novel is peculiar in many ways. A book about the introduction of coffee and cookies to a community, how can that be bad? Although I found the novel interesting, the novel's wrap-up and epilogue were less than 'rewarding' (helpful). The ending made the book seem as though the author thought the story required shoring up before closure. I may give other novels by this author a try. I hope any follow-ons are a bit more robustly edited.

A magnificent read

This is an amazing book, filled with wholesome object lessons, interesting characters and wonderful themes. My grandson (now 10) and I thoroughly enjoyed this novel. To my mind, this book is much deeper, more thought-provoking and emotionally rich than the Ramona & Henry series.
