Just couldn't get into the story at all. The thing it most reminded me of, in a vague way, was [b:The Silmarillion|7332|The Silmarillion|J.R.R. Tolkien|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1565193934l/7332.SX50.jpg|4733799]. Both felt overly wordy; but unlike The Silmarillion, I have no other experiences with Gormenghast to make me want to keep trying with it.
