Alvina Chamberland: Love the World, or Get Killed Trying (2024, Menard Press, The) No rating

I generally tend to struggle with stream of consciousness novels. There are a couple of exceptions, Lawrence Durrell and Imogen Binnie. Even Lawrence Durrell has a narrow window on my attention. So Love the World or Get Killed Trying was daunting for me when I realised what I’ve gotten myself into. That said, there are some stretches of beautiful writing, honest and sharply observed that are, so far, keeping me reading. Close enough to experiences I can identify in my own life as a trans woman. I can’t overstate the power of representation, seeing your own life reflected in art is so powerful and uplifting. I find myself thinking “So this is how it feels to be cisgender, where you automatically see yourself reflected back in the world around you.”
