I know I read this once upon a time, even had it as a hardcover, but it's just been too long to remember it. But today I listened to the audiobook, and it was quite good. There are basically two things going on - one, we see this author's version on how Riker and Troi met, and what they did on Betazed back in the day, all as a long flashback. The other is watching Admiral Riker, in a future where Troi has been dead for decades when she was on the Enterprise D. He hasn't forgiven himself for what he thinks isn't saving her in time. But when he comes across the possibility of that it shouldn't have happened, and that he could save her, he jumps at it. In both areas, the book shows us their respect, caring, and love for the other - as it started, and as it continues. Definitely great for the Riker/Deanna fans.
