When I read Divergent, I thought it was an insipid, trite, and futile waste of time. But everyone kept talking about how much they loved it, and eventually I decided that maybe I was mistaken. So I read Insurgent. It was at least as bad. My fundamental problem with these books is that I simply cannot believe in the world, or the characters, the author has created. Yes, the plot is fast paced and it's easy to get through these short books, but a quick read is not always a good read (not always a bad one either, mind you).

I suppose I'll get around to reading the third one about the time that particular movie comes out because by then I will have begun to doubt my impression again. Oh well. There are worse things in life, and sometimes these things are worth the read just so you know what everyone is talking about.
