Yep, this book is awesome. It's been many years since I last read it, though I have seen bits and pieces of the movie numerous times. The movie just doesn't do the book justice. Jack Nicholson mugging for the camera and over acting. And the wife...nope. But this book is great. I was a nervous wreck reading it and last night my sleep was very restless and disrupted by half formed dreams and abrupt awakenings. Super scary book. Many years ago my husband and I stayed at a hotel in northern Wisconsin, on the shores of Lake Michigan, that felt haunted. Bad vibes and the person manning the front desk talked about a fire and an illustrious past with carnival rides and amusements such as a bowling alley and roller rink. All long gone. I immediately thought of this book. I'm glad we only spent the one night!
