A very interesting overview of Bundist countercultural institutions - trade unions, women's organizations, youth and children's groups, educational insitutions, sports groups, etc. The author points out that the Jewish Labor Bund operated as a kind of political party well known in European labor politics during the early 20th century - one offering its adherents a framework within which they could organize their life and experience some of their ideas in action. It was also offering these who were not initially party sympathizers an opportunity to experience its ideas in practice within context these found important - for example to send their children for recuperation in a sanatorium, to join a study or a sports group, or take part in cultural events.
