Brilliant work on the way violence works. Gang violence is Jamaica escalating when local, and later international, politicians and crime organizations, exploit it for their own needs. The exploitation is mutual though - crime lords attempt to make use of their position as these controlling violent groups in order to gain political and economic power. The problem is that the escalation cannot be controlled by anybody. While each of the book protagonists feels in control, none of them is.
