David McCullough: Truman (1993, Simon & Schuster) 4 stars

Review of 'Truman' on 'Goodreads'

5 stars

Anyone afraid of the challenges facing our future needs to read McCullough.

From project to project, Panama to Brooklyn, McCullough subtly amidst the facts of tons of earth and lives lost, brings the fundamentally American spirit of "can do" to every page.

No where is this more evident than the biography of the haberdasher and political-machine hack from Missouri. With nothing to recommend him for the job, and every excellent reason to believe he would be a disaster; Truman picked up the presidential reins and promptly made some of the hardest, best and most visionary decisions ever made by this country for the future of our world.
