Nancy Kress: Beggars in Spain (2004, Eos)

In a world where the slightest edge can mean the difference between success and failure, …

Easily my best read in months. Very well written. Many “stop reading and think” moments. And the emotion. Good grief! How many times did this thing make me tear up in public? I embraced the rollercoaster of emotions and let it take me through the story’s journey.

Beggars in Spain could have easily been twice as long with so much going on both in the universe and with each character. At the break-neck speed that it is currently or at double the length, it would have been a pleasure to read either way.
