Person und Milieubeschreibungen sind meisterhaft, aber die Geschichte lässt zu wünschen übrig. Die Hauptperson entdeckt die authentische Menschlichkeit von Brandenburg, und wäre es nicht vom Talent der Schriftstellerin, würde es viel zu kitschig sein. Aber, wenn man nichts dagegen hat, eine klassische Land- gegen Stadt-Geschichte zu lesen, dann ist das Buch klar zu empfehlen.

This is not always an easy read, but it is well worth it. I would say that it is some of the most intricate and thoughtful world-building that I have come across. You need to get into the culture of the Kesh, and then there are some important messages for today.

I loved the image of New York under water, and it makes you think about climate change. However, ending with the US as a Scandinavian-style welfare state is a bit of an anticlimax. Also, Robinson's idea that a sudden event can make everyone 'wake up' seems a little naive. But, read it, by all means.
