Person und Milieubeschreibungen sind meisterhaft, aber die Geschichte lässt zu wünschen übrig. Die Hauptperson entdeckt die authentische Menschlichkeit von Brandenburg, und wäre es nicht vom Talent der Schriftstellerin, würde es viel zu kitschig sein. Aber, wenn man nichts dagegen hat, eine klassische Land- gegen Stadt-Geschichte zu lesen, dann ist das Buch klar zu empfehlen.

This is not always an easy read, but it is well worth it. I would say that it is some of the most intricate and thoughtful world-building that I have come across. You need to get into the culture of the Kesh, and then there are some important messages for today.

There are few (but some important) surprises in this book, particularly if you know your history - but the language and atmosphere makes it all worth it.

It takes a little effort to get over the half, but there are bits of beauty all the way through, with a crescendo at the end

This is a book that you will keep thinking and wondering about long after you put it down. Rarely have a read anything so deep.
