Diana Wynne Jones: The Spellcoats (Dalemark Quartet, Book 3) (2001, HarperTrophy) 4 stars

Review of 'The Spellcoats (Dalemark Quartet, Book 3)' on 'Goodreads'

5 stars

This is a book about making; the making of a king, the making of a witch, the making of two magical coats, the making of a land. All the main ingredients of the fantasy genre are here; under Wynne-Jones's pen they are taken to a level beyond that of most modern story-smiths. This is not genre busting - it demonstrates that there is no need to bust the genre to make great literature.
