Kameron Hurley manages to weave a tale about a shattered alien world, a never-ending holy war, shape-shifters, bug mages, and inquisitorial bounty-hunters into that is both interesting and engaging, with characters who seem to have real and true motivations. I'm glad this is a book #1 because I really want to know more about Nyx and the world she's from.
