I respect all of the volunteers that have contributed to this project, but I won't be staying long given the current unpolished state.

I have listed out the primary barriers below (without any expectation that anyone will ever see them). I might try to contribute myself at some point, at which point the list of issues noticed with a fresh perception could be useful.

Usability issues: (as of December 2023) - Primitive, nearly unusable, search function. You often have to scroll to find the exact match, even for popular books. Could be a result of lacking data due to small userbase, but the search results should obviously account for relevance by looking at factors such as number of reviews. - Lack of partial dates. I don't remember the exact date I read a book 10 years ago, it should be possible to just fill in the year. - Lack of formatting information near text fields. Especially important during the registration process when you are first asked to fill in the profile summary. Users should be presented with formatting information, instead of having to guess about how the partial markdown implementation works. - Lack of preview option. It would be useful to preview formatting in reviews and profile summary. I currently bypass it by making excessive edits. - Duplicate book entries cluttering series. I have been trying to "remove" one of them, but it doesn't seem like you can change the hidden parent_work input field. - Book preview cards lack relevance cues. Is this the primary edition? Did other users enjoy the book? Is the rating based on one or a million reviews? It's hard to determine the answers with the current "book cards" (search results, books under author page, books in lists, etc.)
